American Civilization
Course Overview
American Civilization with Dr. Richard Parks showed me a variety of history fields and methods used by historians. Not only did Dr. Parks teach the information and skills required of the course, but also discussed vital workplace skills and strategies for life-long learning.
This course was a general survey of American History from the pre-Columbian period to the near present. It focused on the evolution of America, and deepened my understanding and knowledge of American History. I explored a historical approach from earliest times to the present in some areas, stressing economic, political, cultural, diplomatic, military, and social aspects of U.S. History. In this class I got to investigate many old myths and replace them with facts.
The overall perspective of this course detailed the roles of different cultures, and social groups throughout the U. S. and its territories. It discussed our political processes that shaped American society. The class included lectures, videos, guest lecturers, readings, and research.
